About Jane Kaufman

Jane Kaufman is President of Phoenix Physical Therapy, PLC in South Burlington, VT. She has been a practicing Physical Therapist for more than thirty years. Jane is a graduate of the Ithaca College Physical Therapy program and earned her Masters at the University of Vermont. In 2005, Jane became certified in the use of biofeedback for pelvic floor muscle dysfunction. This elite certification makes Jane one of only a handful of physical therapists in the northeast region with this expertise, having met the rigorous criteria required in order to become a certified provider.
In recent years, Jane has focused on men’s, women’s and pediatric health issues which are positively resolved through appropriate physical therapy treatment using surface EMG biofeedback. Her success in assisting men, women and children with a variety of incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction and pain issues has made her an authority and leader in this specialized area of physical therapy in Vermont as well as nationally.
Certification in pelvic muscle dysfunction biofeedback demonstrates professionalism and adherence to carefully developed standards as a health care provider. Procedures are consistent with the Department of Health and Human Services Guidelines, giving credibility and evidence that practitioners maintain knowledge and skill levels. Health care professionals who achieve BCIA Certification (Biofeedback Certification International Alliance) demonstrate commitment to professionalism by completing basic degree and educational requirements, learning to apply clinical biofeedback skills during mentorship, and passing a written examination.
Jane and her staff of highly skilled therapists have made the treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction, pelvic pain, pelvic organ prolapse, constipation, elimination disorders and incontinence the focus of the practice. Phoenix Physical Therapy services are a sought after option for patients seeking successful treatment and for physicians seeking successful outcomes for their patients.
Jane and her staff are currently collaborating on research with the UVM College of Medicine to further knowledge in the field of pelvic floor dysfunction and quality of life. Jane’s depth of experience in her field has led her to teaching workshops across the country in pelvic floor dysfunction and biofeedback for BCIA. Currently Jane is on the International Task Force for Pelvic Muscle Dysfunction Biofeedback with BCIA and teaches the national certification course for eligible providers through Biofeedback Training and Incontinence Solutions.
Jane is an adjunct faculty member in the University of Vermont’s Department of Physical Therapy and she serves as Chair of the Advisory Board for UVM’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Jane has been a guest speaker at Grand Rounds at FAHC and she often speaks at meetings of special interest groups, such as men’s prostate cancer support groups.
Jane and her husband Dave spend their leisure time with family, including their golden retrievers, and enjoy the outdoor activities famous in Vermont. They also spend time in the Adirondacks in the summer.
