About Denise Casey

Denise Casey works with people of all ages as a writer, storyteller, Voice Movement Therapy practitioner, bodyworker, singer, group facilitator and mindfulness coach. She's taught experience-based learning for over a decade: working in outdoor education centers, camps, schools, universities, businesses, treatment centers; teaching mindfulness and expressive arts, as well as facilitating workshops and classes in voice, writing, mindfulness and creative process.

For two years Denise trained full-time at a residential Buddhist monastery in Vermont where Denise served as Director of Mindfulness in Education. In 2013 she was honored to co-coach the nationally recognized Burlington youth slam-poetry team Muslim Girls Making Change (MGMC). For several years she co-facilitated and co-created a 5-month mindfulness training program through the Vermont Education Health Initiative (VEHI) for public school teachers throughout Vermont.

Denise is known for her ability to transform and deliver difficult experiences and emotions "with a blend of humor, tenderness, gut-punches, and philosophical depth." She wrote and performed two original plays, ‘Got This Voice’ and ‘Born of Belly’, that combine song, story, poetry and movement to look at the ways we carry, hold and heal stories in our bodies. When she became mysteriously sick in 2016, she began training in Traditional Chinese medicine and Amma therapeutic massage. Prior to that she studied reiki, Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, myofascial and craniosacral practices, as well as apprenticed with teachers of voice, movement, improvisation and dance. Denise trained for two years in Voice Movement Therapy (VMT) and is currently seeing clients in Burlington, Montpelier and Zoomland.

Lastly, but certainly not least, a majority of her learning and what, she believes, most qualifies her to show up with clients is the time she's spent learning to listen and value the parts of herself she believed were unworthy of love. May we all get this opportunity.
